Laiyee Lee

Laiyee Lee has been taking photographs of landscapes, mountains, wildlife, and cities for 23 years as a hobbyist until she turned pro in 2007. Since she got her first 35mm Pentax camera as a college graduation gift, she has been enjoying photography and sharing photographs from her trips with others.
In 1980, splitting between majoring in art and computer science at university, Laiyee took the path of computer science. After getting her BS degree in Computer Science from Polytechnic University of New York in 1984, she worked in the computer field for a few years. Uncertain about her choice of career in the computer industry, she took night classes at the Fashion Institute of Technology of New York to channel her interest in art. After she earned her BAA degree in Fashion Design, she decided to continue to build her career as a database specialist and concentrated her interest in photography on the side -- by taking photography trips with professional photographers; attending photography seminars; and just taking many pictures.
Laiyee’s interest is in landscapes, flowers and birds because she enjoys the natural shapes and colors that Mother Nature created. She is a nature enthusiast. Recently, The Nature Conservancy and Earth’s Birthday asked her to donate photographs for their publications. Her portfolio includes more recent photographs from New Mexico, Utah, Hawaii, California, New York and Wyoming, and earlier photos from her European travels to Florence, Milan, Paris, Rome, and Venice, and earlier slides from her trips to Asia.
Her work is currently shown at the Michael Smith Gallery at 526 Canyon Road in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Her first show, “Capturing the Light”, opened there in October of 2009. You can also find more of her photographs on the web at www.michaelsmithgallery.com and www.laiyeelee.com.
