China Cove, Point Lobos (Plein Air)

“I took a trip to the Monterey and Carmel areas of California and this rather quick Point Lobos oil was done with my easel strapped to my knees because I couldn’t carry all my equipment up to the best vantage point. I loved this plunging view, there were people walking past and yet I was so struck by the color of the water I couldn’t not paint it. I’m so happy with the color in this painting. It is literally the color of the water as I saw it on that particular day. I now always think of this spot not as “China” Cove, but as “Emerald Cove” but “China” is the right name.” -- Gregory
